Hedge Prayer for Protection of Household

The “Hedge Prayer of Protection” is one of the most powerful prayers in the arsenal of spiritual warfare. We learn from Job that God has placed a “hedge of protection” around his children that Satan cannot cross except that God allows it (or as we allow it).

It should be noted, as it is with all prayer, the Hedge Prayer of Protection is not a magic bullet. There are no guarantees that the Hedge surrounding us cannot be breached. We can allow Satan and his demons to breach the Hedge by our carelessness of leaving the gate open, through direct or indirect invitation to the demons, through sins of commission and omission, through holes left unrepaired after sins are confessed and forgiven, through ancestral afflictions, etc. Even if there are no other reasons, God may allow demons to breach the hedge, as He did with Job, for purposes of testing, learning, or other Divine Reasons that only God may know.

And the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” Then Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for naught? Hast thou not put a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. —Job 1:8-10

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind. — James 4:7-8

Trusting in the promise that whatever we ask the Father in Jesus’ name He will do, I(we) now approach You Father with confidence in Our Lord’s words and in Your infinite power and love for me(us) and for my(our) household and family, and with the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Blessed Archangel Michael, my(our) guardian angel(s) and the guardian angels of my(our) household and family, with all the saints and angels of heaven, and Holy in the power of His blessed Name, ask you Father to protect my(our) household and its members and keep us from the harassment of the devil and his minions.

Father I(we) ask in desire to serve You and adore You and to live our lives for You that You build a hedge of protection around my(our) household, like that which surrounded Job, and to help us to keep that hedge repaired and the gate locked so that the devil and his minions have no access or means to breach the hedge except by your expressed will. I (we) specifically ask for protection for ______________________.

Father, I(we) am(are) powerless against the spiritual forces of evil and recognize my(our) utter dependence on You and Your power. Look with mercy upon me(us) and upon my(our) household and family. Do not look upon our sins, O Lord; rather, look at the sufferings of your Beloved Son and see the Victim who’s bitter passion and death has reconciled us to You. By the victory of the cross, protect us from all evil and rebuke any evil spirits who wish to attack, influence, or breach Your hedge of protection in any way. Send them immediately back to Hell and fortify Your Hedge for our protection by the blood of Your Son, Jesus. Send your Holy Angels to watch over us and protect us.

Father, all of these things I(we) ask in the most holy name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Thank you, Father, for hearing my(our) prayer. I(we) love You, I(we) worship You, I(we) thank You and I(we) trust in You. Amen.

Rebuking Particular Spirits Affecting the Household

It is important to rebuke attacking spirits each and every time they attack. So if one is attacked fifty times a day one must rebuke the spirit fifty time each and every time it attacks. The long prayer below may be said in the morning and evening for example, but it not practical when rebuking an evil spirit many times throughout the day. Thus, the smaller prayer may be said. In situation when saying the prayer cannot be out loud, then say it under your breath or in your mind, but do say it each time you are attacked. Here is the smaller prayer:

“By my authority as head of this household, I(we) rebuke you spirit(s) of _____. Father in heaven please remove this spirit from our household and family never to return, and instead give our household and family a spirit of __(the opposite spirit*)__.”

*Example: The opposite of fear may be peace, the opposite of lust is purity, the opposite of depression may be joy, etc. Whatever you feel is the opposite of the spirit that is attacking.

Here is the longer prayer:

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His name, (and by my authority as head of this household)I(we) ask of the heavenly Father to rebuke this spirit of ___________ and to command it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to depart from (me, family member) and from this household, immediately, quietly, and without harm to anyone never to return.

I(we) bring the power and the protection of the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ over this household, (and over particular family member). Satan has no part in this household or with any member of my(our) family. This family and household is sealed with the saving blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, forgive me(us) and my(our) family for not being all we should be in Your eyes. Let the cleansing, healing waters of our baptism wash over me(us) and this household, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Lord Jesus Christ, fill me(us) (and a particular family member) with Your (attribute opposite to that of the spirit being rebuked) to replace the (attribute of the spirit being rebuked). [e.g. the spirit of peace to replace the spirit of anxiety; spirit of purity to replace the spirit of lust; etc]

Lord Jesus, bring to bear all the guardian angels of this family, and all the angels of heaven, against the forces of evil that seek to cause trouble for me(us) and my(our) household..

Saint Michael, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and our Mother, pray for us that we may not fall into the devil’s temptations.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for setting us free. We praise You, we bless You, we worship You. Thank You for the wisdom and light of the Holy Spirit.

Thank You for enabling me(us) (and/or “me” as head of the household) to be aggressive against the works of the enemy. Thank You for Your hope, that takes away discouragement; thank You for ongoing victory. “…in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Rom. 8:37). Amen.

Resisting Satan’s Attack Against Our Household

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His name (and by my authority as head of the household), I(we) come before You Heavenly Father to ask you to come against the powers of darkness causing (name whatever symptom). Come against these powers, O Lord, because of the power of my(our) union with the Lord Jesus Christ. According to Your Word, O Lord, and through His precious blood I(we) resist the devil and his minions.

I(we) resist the devil and all of his workers by the Person and power of the Lord Jesus Christ. I(we) submit (and submit this household) to the Lordship and control of the Lord Jesus, and I(we) ask you Father to bring the power of my(our) Lord’s incarnation, His crucifixion, His resurrection, His ascension, His glorification, and His second coming directly to focus against all evil forces and all of the evil work against _________. (By the authority of my position as head of the household), I(we) claim my(our) union with the Lord Jesus Christ, and I(we) resist the devil; I(we) resist the devil and all his minions, and I(we) ask You heavenly Father to force these evil ones to flee from before the truth of God.

Further, O Lord, I(we) ask You to bind together the whole kingdom of the evil one and to bind them from working, and finally to command all evil forces and their kingdom to leave ________ and to go immediately and quietly wherever the Lord Jesus Christ may send them. Amen.

Breaking Household Curses and Spells

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints, and powerful in the holy authority of His Precious and Wondrous Name, We ask, O Lord God, that you break and dissolve any and all curses, hexes, spells, seals, satanic vows and pacts, spiritual bondings and soul ties with satanic forces, evil wishes, evil desires, hereditary seals, snares, traps, lies, obstacles, deceptions, diversions, spiritual influences, and every dysfunction and disease from any source whatsoever, that have been placed upon our family and household; [and particularly upon [person’s name] , whom we love very much.]

Father in Heaven, please rebuke these evil spirits and their effects and cast them away from this family [and particularly from [person’s name] ] so that we may continue to do Your Will and fulfill the mission you have for us to Your Greater Glory.

Thank you, Father, for hearing our prayer. We praise Your Holy Name and worship You and Love You. Thank You for the wisdom and light of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for enabling us through Your Holy Spirit to be aggressive against the works of the enemy. Father, We now place our enemies into your hands. Look with mercy upon them, and do not hold their sins against them. Anyone who has cursed our family and household, we now bless. Anyone who has hurt us, we now forgive. For those who have persecuted us, we now pray

O My Sweet Jesus, forgive us our sins and save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, and help especially those who are most in need of Thy Mercy.

Holy Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Prayer for Marriage

Loving heavenly Father, I thank You for Your perfect plan for our marriage. I know that a marriage functioning in Your will and blessing is fulfilling and beautiful. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I bring our marriage before You, that You may make it all You desire it to be. Please forgive me for my sins of failure in our marriage. [Confess specific and particular areas of failure.]

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His Name, I ask you to tear down, O Lord, all of Satan’s strongholds designed to destroy our marriage. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask Father that You help us to break all relationships between us that have been established by Satan and his wicked spirits. I will accept only the relationships established by You and the blessed Holy Spirit. I invite the Holy Spirit to enable me to relate to [spouse’s name] in a manner that will meet her/his needs. I will submit our conversation to You, that it may please You. I submit our physical relationship to You that it may enjoy Your blessing. I submit our love to You that You may cause it to grow and mature.

I desire to know and experience in marriage the fullness of Your perfect will. Open my eyes to see all areas where I am deceived. Open [spouse’s name] to see any of Satan’s deception upon her/him. Make our union to be the Christ-centered and blessed relationship You have designed in Your perfect will. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ with thanksgiving. Amen.

Hedge Prayer for Return of a Wayward Spouse

[The Prayer of Hosea is one of the most powerful prayers in the arsenal of spiritual warfare — the Hedge Prayer. Hosea had a wife who was committing adultery and running around on him. Hosea was convinced that he not divorce her but to pray for her return. This prayer is particularly useful in praying for a wayward spouse, child, or friend who has gone astray from the Faith and from God, has left to lead an improper life, and/or is estranged from the proper relationship they should have with you.

It should be noted, as it is with all prayer, the Hedge Prayer is not a magic bullet. There are no guarantees that the person prayed for will return. We must always remember that God has given his children the freedom to choose — even the freedom to choose wrongly. No one, not even God, may force a person against their will to do anything. God, however, is a mighty persuader and although He will not intrude upon one’s freedom to choose the course of one’s own actions, He may provide the person with great incentive, motivation, and circumstances to help them decide to come back to the place they should be.

For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’ Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns; and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths. She shall pursue her lovers, but not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them. Then she shall say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for it was better with me then than now.’ Hosea 2:5b-7]

Trusting in the promise that whatever we ask the Father in Jesus’ name He will do, I now approach You Father with confidence in Our Lord’s words and in Your infinite power and love for me and for my [husband/wife, person’s name] and with the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Blessed Archangel Michael, the guardian angels of myself and [person’s name] , with all the saints and angels of heaven, and Holy in the power of His blessed Name, ask you Father to send forth Your Spirit to convict [person’s name] and to allow him/her to see any and all wrongs that he has done and how they offend Your infinite goodness.

Father I ask in sorrow, knowing that You do not intrude upon free will, but that You can give Divine Influence like you did with Hosea’s wife, that You send a hedge of thorns and wall around [person’s name] so that he/she cannot find the paths that lead him/her away from me and our marriage, and though he/she shall pursue his/her [i.e. lovers, lifestyle, sinful ways, etc.] , he/she will not [i.e. overtake them, practice improper lifestyles, engage in sin, etc.] ; though he/she shall seek [i.e. lovers, improper lifestyle, sin, etc.] , he/she shall not find [i.e. them, desired lifestyle, the sin that draws him, etc.] ; that no matter what path or what [i.e. lover, lifestyle, sin, etc.] he/she seeks he/she shall not find satisfaction or happiness until he/she returns to me, his/her wife/husband where he/she may then be taught by Your Holy Spirit the true meaning of marriage and sexuality and to be a good and loving husband/wife, and to know the ways of righteousness and true manhood/womanhood.

Father, I am powerless against these spiritual forces and recognize my utter dependence on You and Your power. Look with mercy upon me and upon my husband/wife. Do not look upon our sins, O Lord; rather, look at the sufferings of your Beloved Son and see the Victim who’s bitter passion and death has reconciled us to You. By the victory of the cross, protect us from all evil and rebuke any evil spirits who are attacking or influencing us in any way. Send them back to Hell and place a wall of protection around this marriage. Send your Holy Angels to watch over us and protect us.

Father, all of these things I ask in the most holy name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Thank you, Father, for hearing my prayer. I love You, I worship You, I thank You and I trust in You. Amen.

Prayer for our Children

We bow humbly before You, heavenly Father, to pray for our children, [names of children], and for our whole family. We bring our children and our family before You in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We thank You, Lord, that You love [names of children] and our entire family with the love of Calvary. We thank You that You have given [names of children] to us to love and nurture in Christ.

We ask You to forgive us together as parents, and each of us alone in our roles as father and mother, for all our failures to guide our children in the way they ought to go. Help us Lord to be the parents You want us to be; that we may train [names of children] in Your ways, that we may model the Christ-life before them, so that when they grow-up they will love You and live for You.

Accepting our position through You of having “divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4) that come into our family, we ask You Father to bring all the work of the Lord Jesus, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His Name, to focus directly against the powers of darkness that do now or may later bother, influence, and bind [names of children] and our family in any way; and specifically against (name specific areas of troubles or problems).

We pray that You shall bring the victory of our Lord’s incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and glorification directly against all of Satan’s power brought against us in our family and specifically in the lives of [names of children] . We ask You heavenly Father to bind up all power of darkness set to destroy [names of children] , or our family, and we loose [names of children] , and this family from the influence and harassment of Satan and his demons, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We invite the blessed Holy Spirit to move in hearts of [names of children] that they may know the truth as they are able at their age. We invite the blessed Holy Spirit to move in our hearts and to convict us of sin, of righteousness, and of our responsibility as parents to raise [names of children] in Your name.

We plead the blood of Christ over [names of children] and this family. We claim for us a life yielded to serve the true and living God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
